MODULE 2-COURSE SYLLABUS

HEIGHT SAFETY ,FALL PROTECTION & RESCUE TRAINING

SITE BASED TRAINING COURSE

This site based training course delivers the following syllabus to site-based Rescue Training course is for curtainwall installers or anyone working at height on the perimeter of a structure.

Even when connected to a Personal Fall Protection System it is possible through misuse to fall from the working area.

This course provides the planning and practical information and training to rescue an operative that has taken an accidental fall.

If a faller is suspended in a safety harness, even for a short time it can result in life threatening suspension trauma.

This course consists of Trainer Demonstrative and Trainee participation.

Trainees will be instructed on a one to one basis in the use of rescue equipment and how it is used in a rescue situation by retrieving a dummy suspended from a lanyard outside the structure.

PRACTICAL TRAINING & DEMONSTRATION

PERSONAL FALL PROTECTION EQUIPMENT (PFPE)

We aim to communicate a good understanding of working whilst using Personal fall protection equipment in line with the code of practise for the selection, use and maintenance of personal fall protection systems BS8437:2005.

PRE-USE INSPECTION of safety critical PFPE components, identifying damaged or worn components and maintenance, cleaning and storage of them.

Donning a Safety Harness and adjusting to fit so that the wearer is protected in a fall

EXCLUSION ZONE

An Exclusion zone is erected to control entry to permitted trainees only.

A briefing will be held to discuss the structures specifics, areas of concern, any accidents or near-misses and the trainer will describe the course to be delivered.

Trainees will be asked to consider suitable temporary anchor points for Rescue

The whereabouts of colleagues to help in a rescue.

Best location to keep rescue equipment for fastest deployment.

If Trainees are using a temporary work restraint system for installation work, this will be erected and used as the anchor point for rescue equipment.

A Podium or elevated platform will be required to install the Wrok Restraint System which must be in good condition.

Temporary edge protection is removed from the edge of the slab to allow rescue simulation.

This requires the attendance of a supervisor to oversee this removal and reinstatement.

A Rescue Ladder is attached to the Anchor Point ( Running-line or Single anchor) and unfurled out of the structure.

This is the first Rescue option but relies on the faller being conscious and mobile.

The first trainees are connected to the Work restraint system before they lower the Rescue dummy over the edge of the slab.

The next decision is to decide how best to safely recover the faller who may be unconscious.

Determining factors to reach a decision of hoisting or lowering the casualty.

You must also consider the safety of the Rescuers.

The easiest retrieval of a faller is there are two people connected to an Anchorage System or individual anchor points could be to manually lift the faller.

You have to be aware that the fallers will be extremely heavy and the safety of the rescuers must be considered first.

If it is impractical to physically list the faller or if there is only one rescuer available , the faller should be lifted or lowered using the Rescue Kit.

Trainees are shown how to use a Rescue kit starting with the Telescopic Pole that helps the rescuer to attach the Rescue Kit to the Faller.

The Rescue Winch is connected to the Anchor point with its enconnector being inserted in its open position in the Rescue Pole.

This is lowered and connected to the Fallers Safety Harness.

Once connected the Faller is lifted or lowered by manually winding the Rescue Winch.

When lowering the Rescue dummy, the lanyard has to be removed by disconnection or by physically cutting through it.

SUMMARISING

Trainees are encouraged to participate in every aspect of this training and to ask for further demonstration or explanation if they are unsure.

CERTIFICATION

CERTIFICATION

Upon successful completion each delegate will be provided with a certificate carrying a 36 month validity period for this specific application.
